Meet Our Team At Starfish Dental

Dr. Dag Zapatero

Dr. Zapatero is a graduate of The University of North Carolina School of Dentistry.  He has earned many awards and accreditations during his 30-year career in dentistry, including twice being recognized by the Journal of Dental Technology as a leader in the dental profession and consistently named one of "America's Top Dentists."   Dr. Zapatero is among the top 1% of general dentists who've earned their Fellowship, Mastership, and TWO Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition Awards from the Academy of General Dentistry.  Along with these achievements, Dr. Zapatero is an adjunct faculty member at the UNC School of Dentistry and a visiting faculty and Scholar at the L.D. Pankey Institute, and a Legislative Committee member of the Virginia Dental Association.  Dr. Zapatero is most proud of his Fellowship at the prestigious American College of Dentists, which limits membership to just 3.5% of all dentists.

Elizabeth

Liz joined our practice in 2004 and quickly won her patients over with compassion and empathy. Liz grew up in Virginia Beach and earned her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree from Old Dominion University. Liz is entering her twentieth year of practice and continues to improve her patient care through advanced education opportunities while embracing technological advancements in dentistry. Liz credits her years at Starfish Dental for allowing her to grow both personally and professionally in an environment that focuses on individual patient care over production quotas. Liz loves developing a personal connection with her patients and would love to meet you too. Outside of the office, Liz is often traveling, staying healthy, and working on her home inside and out with her husband, Rob. Inside their home, they have two rescue cats and a very talkative parrot, Fletch.

Jennifer

Jennifer joined Starfish Dental in 2018 after a twenty-year career at the office of Dr. Albert Konikoff. Jennifer has always felt connected to the Starfish Dental family (staff members and patients), and her caring personality is infectious! It is one of Jennifer’s joys to share a moment of laughter with every patient she meets during the day while ensuring their needs are met. Our patient-focused care is just one thing that makes Jennifer proud to be a Patient Care Professional. Jennifer is married to her favorite guy, Junior, and has two children, Rae and Jared. When she isn’t at the office, you can find Jennifer enjoying time with her family and sweet fur baby Olive or embracing the outdoors by mowing her lawn. Jennifer also loves Zumba, the sunshine, and singing loudly enough to be heard in the office's reception area. She is also fluent in Español, so feel free to dust off your Spanish and engage her in your preferred language.

Lisa

Lisa is a lifelong native of Virginia Beach. She graduated from Cox High School and earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Finance and Dental Hygiene from Old Dominion University.  Lisa worked in Residential Real Estate Sales for 15 years, connecting with families and finding them the right place to call home.  Her curiosity for dental hygiene led to a career change in 2011, and she began work at Starfish Dental at the start of the pandemic.  Lisa's ability to form caring relationships with her patients while helping them improve their oral health has been an excellent match for our practice.  Lisa's community service association includes the CHKD Bayshore Circle, the United States Tennis Association and our local tennis community, and Beach FC Soccer Club, which has led to many friendships.  Lisa is married to David, and their children include Abigail, Zachary, and daughter-in-law, Meghan. David and Lisa have two lively Carin Terriers, Finley and Oliver, who keep the family quite active. When not at work, Lisa enjoys traveling, reading, hiking, biking, and sunrise walks at the beach.

Lori

Lori was Dr. Zapatero's first hire when he opened his private practice in 1992. Lori started as a dental assistant in the early days of the practice. She then earned her dental hygiene degree from Old Dominion University, but her real love was dental assisting. Her journey in dentistry came full circle when she returned to assisting Dr. Zapatero in general patient care., but she does much more for the practice.  Lori is a pleasure; we are very fortunate to have her guide our team.

Lori's loyalty and dedication to her patients and our dental practice have allowed her to hold just about every position in the office. Patients always notice Lori's smile because they can tell she enjoys her job and her work environment. Lori is married to Steve, and they have two children, Kyle and Kacy, and a beautiful Rottweiler named Finn. During their free time, Lori and Steve enjoy spending time in their beach house on Hatteras Island with their family and dog, Finn.

A healthy smile is just a click away.
